Rose FoxAndrew AlbaneseWith a new e-reading device arriving this week on the market, every book you read could have its own network. PW Features Editor Andrew Albanese tells CCC’s Chris Kenneally what he heard when Kobo‘s Matt Welch and Jason Gamblen stopped by the PW offices to show off Kobo’s new tablet, the Kobo Vox.

“Kobo’s social reading software offers a ‘networked’ book experience through a platform called Pulse, part of its Reading Life software, that lets you start a conversation on any page of any kobo e-book,” Albanese says. “That’s one way Kobo can influence readers to choose the Kobo reading experience over Kindle: by adding value.”

On the PWxyz blog, PW contributors are already offering previews of their choices for the year’s Best Books. PW reviews editor Rose Fox has posted about one of her SF/fantasy/horror picks, and tells Chris Kenneally that in the upcoming week’s issue, the reviews section again has an international flavor.

“In nonfiction, we interview Sonia Faleiro, author of Beautiful Thing, an exposé about bar dancers in Mumbai. There’s also a mystery Q&A with Colin Cotterill, author of Slash and Burn, the eighth and final of his Laotian mysteries,” Fox says. “And we have a great big double Q&A with Eduardo Jiménez Mayo and Chris N. Brown, respectively the translator and editor of Three Messages and a Warning, a collection of fantastical stories by new and established Mexican writers.”

Every Friday, CCC’s “Beyond the Book” speaks with the editors and reporters of “Publishers Weekly” for an early look at the news that publishers, editors, authors, agents and librarians will be talking about when they return to work on Monday.
