As bookstore sales falter, the imminent arrival of an “explosive book about a presidency that is under fire from almost every side” is welcome news

Andrew AlbaneseOn a week the US Census Bureau estimated that first quarter 2019 bookstore sales were down 8.4% compared to 2018, publisher Henry Holt announced that Michael Wolff, author of Fire & Fury: Inside the Trump White House has written a follow-up book. The announcement, made at the Jerusalem Book Fair, undoubtedly cheered booksellers, says Andrew AlbanesePublishers Weekly senior writer.

“Holt will publish Wolff’s new book Siege: Trump Under Fire on June 4—just days after BookExpo wraps up. The book is billed as a sequel to Fire and Fury, which has sold more than a million hardcover copies, according to NPD BookScan,” Albanese tells CCC’s Chris Kenneally.

“Stephen Rubin, Holt’s chairman, bought the book from Andrew Wylie of the Wylie Agency. John Sterling, the editor of Fire and Fury, will also edit the new book,” Albanese reports.

According to Holt, Siege is an “essential and explosive book about a presidency that is under fire from almost every side… Siege reveals an administration that is perpetually beleaguered by investigations and a president who is increasingly volatile, erratic, and exposed.”

Every Friday, CCC’s “Beyond the Book” speaks with the editors and reporters of “Publishers Weekly” for an early look at the news that publishers, editors, authors, agents and librarians will be talking about when they return to work on Monday.
