Penguin and Random House began sharing a single corporate roof in July 2013, and while it’s taken a bit of time, housecleaning has started.
“The transformation of editorial operations at Penguin Random House has begun in earnest with creation of the new Penguin Publishing Group, which will house all of Penguin’s adult imprints and be overseen by Madeline McIntosh, who is currently PRH’s president of U.S. operations, and COO,” reports Andrew Albanese, Publishers Weekly senior writer.
Inevitably for a corporate marriage, the Penguin Random House merger has led to departures and redundancies. “Most notably, they include Susan Petersen Kennedy, president of Penguin Group U.S., who leave the company at the end of the year after 13 years,” Albanese tells CCC’s Chris Kenneally. “Time will tell what this means for staff at various imprints. I do think there are editors at both houses who look at the new structure and find cold comfort.”
