In scholarly publishing, the remarkable growth of the “Open Access” movement is the story of 2012. One man has played a starring role in this drama: Peter Binfield, co-founder and publisher since May 2012 of PeerJ, and before that, publisher of PLOS ONE, from the Public Library of Science. This year alone, Binfield estimates, PLoS ONE will publishe 25,000 open access articles across a wide range of scientific studies. He spoke with CCC’s Chris Kenneally in Washington, DC, where he also addressed the annual North American Conference of the International Society of Managing & Technical Editors (ISMTE).
On Wednesday, September 5, Copyright Clearance Center presents, “Open Access: Key Considerations and Solutions for New Business Models,” with Roy Kaufman, CCC’s Managing Director of New Ventures. The free program will cover issues publishers should consider when developing or refining an Open Access business strategy, and will be an opportunity to learn how CCC can provide technology solutions for OA publishers.
