It’s been a grey summer for publishing: The runaway bestseller 50 Shades of Grey and related titles in the E.L. James trilogy from Vintage have reportedly sold over 10 million copies. That sensational figure suggests there’s a ready-to-ride bandwagon for other publishers.
“So far, Sylvia Day’s book Bared to You, now at #6 on the romance bestseller list, looks to be seizing the mantle,” Andrew Albanese, Publishers Weekly features editor, tells CCC’s Chris Kenneally. “Like 50 Shades, Day’s novel was originally self-published, and was acquired by Penguin’s Berkley imprint in late May. The Berkley cover features a pair of cufflinks, recalling the stark image of a tie on Vintage’s edition of 50 Shades.”
And it’s not your imagination— Oliver Sacks does have a new book coming out this fall, reports Rose Fox, PW reviews editor who blogs at Genreville. “Writing with his trademark mix of evocative description, probing curiosity, and warm empathy, Sacks once again draws back the curtain on the mind’s improbable workings,” in Hallucinations, due November 6, she reports.
