For 2012, the IBPA has moved its annual Publishing University event to the West Coast and arrives at the Sheraton Fisherman’s Wharf Hotel in San Francisco on March 9 for two days of sessions and workshops covering topics, techniques and tools for beginning and growing publishers. IBPA President Florrie Binford Kichler joins CCC’s Christopher Kenneally with breaking news on who will headline Publishing University 2012.

Otis Chandler, founder and CEO of Goodreads will speak in a “Fireside Chat” format hosted by Michael Wolf, Vice President of digital publishing at GigaOM and CNC and Bloomberg-TV. Steve Piersanti, founder, president and publisher of Berrett-Koehler kicks off the IBPA Publishing University on Friday, March 9 with the opening keynote. The IBPA news release has complete details.

California-based children’s publisher Rana DiOrio of Little Pickle Press adds her own perspective on what it takes to make it in independent publishing today. At “Pub U,” DiOrio will present Book App Basics, detailing the basics publishers need to know to decide if book apps make sense for their publishing programs. “Some say it’s a marketing tool, some say it’s a standalone product,” DiOrio notes.
