Next week, May 26-29, BookExpo organizers will hold a virtual conference, replacing the program that was cancelled earlier this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, reports Andrew Albanese, Publishers Weekly senior writer.
“Many in publishing will be watching to see how this goes, and not just at places like the Frankfurt Book Fair, which will soon make a decision on what its own show will look like this coming fall,” Albanese tells CCC’s Chris Kenneally.
“My sense going in is that we will still need face-to-face meetings – when it is safe to do so,” he notes. “But if these virtual alternatives show any promise, I’ll be interested to see whether they can replace or can augment the connections we depend on in the book business.”
From “Public Libraries and the Pandemic” to “Audiobooks and Consumer Behavior,” the sessions will stream live on BookExpo’s Facebook page.
Every Friday, CCC’s “Beyond the Book” speaks with the editors and reporters of “Publishers Weekly” for an early look at the news that publishers, editors, authors, agents and librarians will be talking about when they return to work on Monday.
